Established in 2010, the Ahvaan Trust is committed to working with Government schools where 65% of India’s children study; focusing on the professional development of teachers in order to lay a long-lasting foundation for lifelong learning.

Ahvaan forges Knowledge Partnership with AUD and gains entry into Delhi government schools

  • In 2011, a knowledge partnership was forged with Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) – The Centre for Early Childhood Education and Development (CECED) and The School of Education Studies (SES). Ahvaan & AUD conducted systematic two-year research published as – “Teachers in Conversation”.
  • In 2013, DoE gave approval to Ahvaan to develop Resource Rooms (Pathshalas) in 5 Sarvodaya Vidyalayas. These Lab spaces conducted action research with the primary teachers of Class 1 and 2 to engage, learn, and refine the main blocks of the curriculum – Language (English) and Numeracy (Mathematics).
  • Ahvaan formulated a broad curriculum and began teaching & and demonstrating in primary classrooms.
  • Ahvaan became a part of a community of practice consisting of approximately 400 students, 10 teachers, 5 Heads of Schools, Directorate of Education (Govt of NCT of Delhi) and its own management team, for an initial set of 5 Sarvodaya Vidyalayas in Delhi.

Development of the first Pre-Primary Curriculum for Delhi & implemented across 450 schools - In-Service Coaching & Mentoring Program launched

  • The Covid-19 pandemic strikes India and Delhi shuts down all schools since March 2020. Ahvaan repurposes its team to assist DoE in Contingency Activities as a Covid-19 response. Worksheets in English & Hindi are created for 30,000 Class 1 students across the State.
  • Ahvaan continues to co-create ECCE Curriculum and bridging programs for Class 1 & 2.
  • Ahvaan continues to train teachers/specialist cadre online on the Early Childhood Curriculum.
  • Ahvaan creates the Foundational Level (Nursery to class 2) Curriculum on Good Citizenship – “Deshbhakti”, as requested by the SCERT, Delhi.
  • Development of the Three (3+ to 5+ years) stage ECCE I Curriculum for the Delhi State Board – Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Kindergarten. So far, 195 daily lesson plans, 150 worksheets and reflection sheets for teachers, students and parents have been created.
  • The online teacher training is being extended to other areas of Foundational Learning outcomes for educators – virtual teaching, inclusive classrooms and gender sensitization.

Ahvaan Trust: Scaling in Delhi – 450 schools and “diversified pilots” in other States Post Pandemic Ahvaan’s support for DOE initiatives

Additional States

  • Ahvaan is invited by the DoE, Government of Tripura to develop a Pre-Primary Cell for the delivery of Curriculum for the Foundational Years; prepare the necessary curriculum for 3+ to 7+ along with the necessary TLMs, daily and weekly lesson plans, and a Teachers Manual.
  • In order to support this State wide intervention across a 100 schools, Ahvaan is undertaking the preparation and training of a Special Cadre of teachers, and Master Trainers, and this intervention has been mandated through an MOU for 2 years with the provision for an extension.
  • Other State DoEs and SCERTs are looking to initiate Pre-Primary integrated Foundational Learning curricula and teacher preparation for their respective State Government schools, and Ahvaan is presently in discussions with the State of Andhra Pradesh.
